Dear Mrs Funk,

    I have been working on a Turner Family History for some time and would really like to get in touch with someone from your branch of the tree.  Your grandfather and mine, Cyrus F. Turner, were brothers so we do have the same ancestry.

    our first grandfather in America was William Turner, born 1756 in England - a Revolutionary War veteran who settled in Albemarla Co. Va. and spent his last years in Todd County, KY, where he died in Nov 1849.

(I) William Turner Born ~ 1756 in England, died in Nov. 1849, (Age 93 years)

Emigrant, at 21 enlisted in the Revolutionary War spring of 1776, settled in Albermarle, Co. Va. And spent his last years in Todd County, Ky., where he died in Nov. 1849.


(II)Randolph Born ~1780  where? died when? in Huntsville Alabama, married who?

lived in Charlottesville,  Virginia,  moved to Crab Orchard, KY when is son William was a small boy, remained there only a short time, then moved to Huntsville, Alabama,  his son took Bilious fever and after an illness of only nine days, died.


(III) William Henry Harrison Turner -born 7  April  1815 born in  Charlottesville,  Virginia,  died July 16, 1899 at the (age 84 years, 3 months, 9 days).  Had a full heard of white hair and beard, an unlined face and really striking blue eyes.  In a tintype of him as a young man, his hair seems to be either blond or red. Several cousins have read hair.


Married Margaret Monks, in November 11 1839.  She was born  30  July, 1818, died Nov 17, 1906 age 88, 3 months, 18 days. She was born near Milford, OH, was the daughter of John and Matilda Monks, while quite young, they moved to Hamilton, OH. And when she was seven years old her parents moved near Winchester, Randolph, Co., IN.

Born thirteen children.


He remained there only a short time.  When he was a small boy, his father moved to Crab Orchard, KY. remained there only a short time, then moved to Huntsville, Alabama,  where his father soon took bilious fever and after an illness of only nine days, died.

Here he married Margaret Monks,  in November 11 1839. 


About the year 1879 they moved near Pennsville, IN., They joined the Methodist church in 1840, he and his wife being baptized at the same time by Rev.  Wiley.  About the year 1850 he united with the Christian Church, in which faith he held until his death.

They moved to Jay County in October, 1880, where he remained till death. 


He died  16 July 1899 at the residence of Warren C. Gregg,  in Pennville, Jay County, IN. aged eighty four years, three months,  nine days.  He leaves nine children, thirty-nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.

Margaret Turner was born 7 th.  month, 30th day, 1818 Departed this life November 17,  1906, aged 88 years, 3 months, 18 days.  She was born near Milford, OH.  was the daughter of  John and Matilda Monks;  while quite young, they moved to Hamilton,  OH. and when she was seven years old her parents moved to Winchester, Randolph Co., IN.


She was married to William Turner in 1839  and to them were born thirteen children,  nine of whom survive.  They are John, Elmira,  Susannah,  Thomas,  Elizabeth,  Cyrus F.,   and Matilda J.,   were all born near Winchester.  Julia,  William H.,  Mary Eliza,  Jesse,  Lucinda, and Emma,  were born south of Union City.  Margaret had blue eyes, a square unlined face, her hair pulled straight back with a touch of white, but mostly dark.


About the year 1879 they moved near Pennville,  Jay Co., 


About seven years she has been confined to her bed,  suffering almost constantly during that time.


Funeral services were conducted at the home of her daughter,  Lucinda,  Mrs. Warren C.

Gregg, Tuesday at 1  pm.  Interment in Hillside Cemetery. whom survive.

(IV) Thomas Randolph Turner born Nov. 13,  1844 in Randolph Co, In died May 23 1908 (Age 64) in Jay Co.

Enlisted in the Union Army at age 17, in the battle of Bull Run 1862 (Civil War - 87th OH Vol Inf - enlisted at 17 years old, served from June to Sep 1862. He was among those captured and release at Harper's Ferry in Sep 1962)

Married a Gregg had a daughter named Susanna (married an Oblinger), was a teacher in Pennville and in Ft Wayne, the had an orchard (?? Who??)

Married second wife - Iris Frank Eyman (2 kids) was born Aug 3, 1857 in Convoy, Van Wert Co. OH, and died June 17 1923 (Age 66) in Jay Co.  she was the daughter of Abraham Eyman and Julia G Boniwitz


Margaret Turner born June 27 1895 in Portland, Jay Co and died Dec 6 1931 in Toledo, Lucas Co. OH.  She married Tony Vardas, She married Albert B Osengaugh who was born Sep 20 1893 in Jay Co. and died Aug 1970 in Portland (one daughter was Leota Osenbaugh - see below).  She married James Miller Mar 6 1914 in Portland - He was born Feb 23, 1889 in Portland


(V)Abraham Eyman Turner

Birth: Feb 18, 1892 in Portland, Jay Co. -died: Oct 11, 1971 in Jay Co. (Age 80)

Married: Sep 7, 1916

Anna Lillian Coulson Birth: Mar 25, 1891 Portland Jay Co.-Death: Jul 24, 1965  (Age 74) Jay Co.

Notes: Eyman had a full head of hair (Charles - 3/31/01)

Notes: Eyman's grandfather was from England


Occupation: Farmer and rural mail carrier

(by Sara Louise) my parents went on the train to Pikes peak area after they were married on September 7, 1916. Dad worked in a gold mine along with his friend and neighbor, Cecil Bosworth, until Cecil had to have surgery for appendicitis. and Grandma Turner came out and wanted them to go back to Jay County and farm her farm.

Taught in Phoenix for 20 years - last 4 years Jay lived in Texas  mostly 2nd one year 6th

First started at St Joseph Central grade school by fort wayne in 1946 (grad ball State in 46) all 8 grades Music (MWF) and Art(T&Th).  Madison school 1/2 year teachers expected to discipline children English Music, then Noble school 2-years, Noblesville Ind - North of Indy(Carmel), Jay got upset with the farmer he worked for and they moved to 530 West Main Portland house and then taught in 6th & 7 and high school Art - Whichester, Redkey for 2 years teaching 2nd grade. Vinegar for sore through, then Phoenix for 20 years.  taught 4th grade in Texas for 5 years, moved back to Phoenix from Texas - had solar hot water with new house with some solar heat assisted, thought she had a job teaching Violin, but then taught 1st grade for a year church school.

Now teaches Violin and mentoring a Kindergarten girl.
