William Albert Funk
William Albert Funk attended primary school in Green Township near Blaine. William attended Gray and Portland High School then worked on the family farm and neighbor farms till WWII. His father, Harry William Funk farmed a 38 acre farm in Blaine. After the war he married Sara Louise Turner and worked at the Sheller Globe factory for a few years, till he raised enough to buy a farm south east of Portland. Starting with little in terms of farm equipment and tools, old farm house and barns, William set off to create both a successful farm, orchard, garden, shop, all of which became the learning foundation and playground for three children. He labored in love with nature (loved trees, the land, gardening and raising animals), along with building a greenhouse for Sara to extend her flowers from the house and outdoors year round.
William was involved in many social activities via organizations that connected to his church, war veterans and the farming industry. He was a man of few words, yet involved and with both people he knew and giving time to people he did not, like prison ministry. William enjoyed automating work around the farm by building things that later were something you would read about in successful farming or just unique stuff to fit a need on the farm along with his sons adding to this theme as they grew.
